About Aerial Photography
Q What is ortho-rectified and geo-referenced aerial photography?
A Geo-referenced digital photography has known coordinates embedded into the file. This basically means that when the image is loaded into iFarm, it positions itself in relation to where your farm sits in real life because the co-ordinates are known.
Ortho-rectification is a process whereby the digital image is manipulated to account for the earth’s curvature.
Together, geo-referencing and ortho-rectification of your aerial photography will allow you to accurately measure distances and areas using your iFarm Mapping software.
Q What coordinates, datum and projection should my aerial photography be in?
A To be able to accurately calculate areas and distances with your iFarm Mapping software it is recommended that your aerial photography conform to the following:
Coordinates: MGA, AMG
Datum: GDA94, AGD84
Projection: Universal Transverse Mercator
Your digitised aerial photography should be projected in eastings and northings (not latitude and longitude) to ensure that you can accurately measure distances and areas using iFarm Mapping.
Q Can I import digitised aerial photography that is not geo-referenced or ortho-rectified into my iFarm Mapping software?
A Yes, providing that it is in an appropriate file format. However, you should be aware that using non geo-referenced photography will mean that you will be unable to calculate accurate areas and distances for your farm.
Q How do I obtain aerial photography suitable for use in my iFarm Mapping software?
A eAgribusiness can help you obtain digital ortho-rectified and geo-referenced aerial photographs of your farm(s). In order to help us locate and provide a FREE quote on aerial photography for your farm(s) simply send us a completed Aerial Photography Request Form.
Q I already have geo-referenced and ortho-rectified aerial photograph on CD. Can I load it into my iFarm Mapping software?
A Yes, depending on the file format. Geo-referenced ECW Files are the preferred file format and perform best in the iFarm software. Other file formats that can be loaded into iFarm are geo-referenced TIF, BMP or JPEG Files.

About other spatially referenced files
Q I have some image files containing spatial information such as biomass and yield maps, and derivatives of these. Can these images be imported into iFarm Mapping?
A Yes, depending on the file format. Geo-referenced ECW Files are the preferred file format and perform best in the iFarm software. Other file formats that can be loaded into iFarm are geo-referenced TIF, BMP or JPEG Files.
Q Can I create yield maps from my data files in iFarm Mapping?
A It is not possible to create a coloured yield map from data files derived using your yield monitor and GPS. However, yield maps saved as geo-referenced images in an appropriate file format can be imported.
Q I already have a digitised farm plan. Can I load it into my iFarm Mapping software?
A Yes, depending on the file format. SHP file formats are the most desirable. However, DXF and DGN files can also be imported.
Q I have some files containing spatial information such as contour lines. Can these be imported into iFarm Mapping?
A Yes, depending on the file format. SHP file formats are the most desirable. However, DXF and DGN files can also be imported.
QI have digitised shape files for my farm. However, they are in Latitude and Longitude. Can these files be imported into iFarm Mapping?
A Yes. iFarm Mapping allows you to convert shape files projected in latitude and longitude to eastings and northings.
Q Can I import files from my GPS unit into my iFarm Mapping software?
A It is not possible to create shape files from raw data using the free iFarm Mapping product. However, it is possible to import existing shape files.
